Cascading library components allows the user to cascade any updates or changes made in to components within the library, to the deliverables in active or archived scopes (in draft status), without users having to manually update their scopes to see changes.
This is a permissions based feature. In order to apply this permission to users or to a permission profile:
Open 'Manage' -> 'Members' tab. In 'Permissions' tab -> 'Library' section toggle on 'Cascade Updated Components' setting. After that has been done, users will be able to cascade components.
Now, when creating or updating a library component item and using it in the library deliverables or within a scope, the user will be asked to 'Cascade Changes'.
Selecting 'Yes, Cascade Changes' button, the user will apply the updates to all deliverables in the library, or in use in a scope (in draft status).
Selecting 'No, keep deliverables as they are' the user is choosing to not cascade changes to existing deliverables. Only new scopes or newly created deliverables moving forwards will utilise these new/updated components.
The 'Cascade Deliverable Options' are as follow:
ON | OFF | |
Update Library Deliverables |
Will cascade changes to all library deliverables that have the updated component. |
No changes will be made to library deliverables that have the updated component. A sync button will appear wherever the component is used, for the user to manually update in a scope. |
|
ON | OFF |
Update Scope Deliverables |
Will cascade changes to scopes in ‘Draft’ status containingthe updated component |
No changes will be made to scope deliverables in ‘Draft’ status that contain the updated component. A sync button will appear wherever the component appears for the user to manually update in a scope. |
If a deliverable has an updated component which is not been cascaded (synchronized with library), it will be marked with the icon shown below.
In a scope, this icon can be found here:
When the user clicks this icon, the 'Update Outdated Library Component' pop-up will be displayed. Select 'Sync' to update the component in the scope to the most recently updated component in the library.
